Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff has emphasized the importance of not getting ahead of themselves, despite the team’s comfortable win at the Canadian Grand Prix on a hot track surface. George Russell showcased the Mercedes W16’s potential for victory in Montreal right from the start of practice, ultimately claiming pole position and defeating Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. Although Mercedes struggled with tire weaknesses in high temperatures, Russell managed to control the race and outperform Red Bull on tire management. The team’s success in Canada was partly attributed to their new rear suspension geometry, which helped keep the tires under control. However, Wolff remains cautious about potential breakthroughs in hot weather conditions, as the unique track layout in Montreal played to Mercedes’ strengths. Moving forward, the team is aware of the varying challenges posed by different tracks and will not be overly confident in their performance.
